Lesson Two-Modern-Day Pirates

Summary
This paragraph talks about the dressing of romantic images of pirates are out of date, and hundreds of pirate attacks are committed on international shipping routes each year. Furthermore, it will state the definition of piracy of The International Piracy Reporting Centre. The International Piracy Reporting Centre defines piracy as a violent act of boarding or attempting to board any ship which is berthed, at anchor or at sea. Petty thefts are doing with the thieves are armed. Most of piracies use high technology to undertake their robbery. They use radar to find out weak ship to attack and then kill the owners. Finally, they change the original route to secret port and sell owners possessions. According to the statistics in 2000, piracy attacks has reached 469 cases, including 202 hostage taking and 72 deaths; however, sometimes the crew made it up to become frauds. The marine police rescued a raft to find the crew safe but each had all their valuables packed in their suitcases. Many ships are equipped with an unobtrusive alarm system for adding security; however the message can’t be detected by someone on board or the ships at nearby. Pirates drive the small boats, using ladders to attack a lot of big ships. In order to protect themselves, they set a system, which can shock pirates. If there is any contact, the crew will be announced by the system. It is rare to see piracy on the sea instead of ones which occur everyday in our daily life. Intellectual property is a concept that ideas play more influential roles and more and more developed dependent economics rely on it rather than their natural resources. It concludes by introducing the problem of using illegal software or engaging in other illegal practices mentioned above. Because they think that creating new software will be pirated in the end. It becomes a trend that people using things from the Internet without paying money. It's talking about the four approaches to defend the piracy. They are education, legal prosecution, copy protection, and compromise.
